Monica Desai is a director of global public policy on the Connectivity team at Facebook, where she focuses on developing issues involving online communications service providers. Prior to joining Facebook, Monica spent over a decade in senior positions at the Federal Communications Commission. Her positions included service as Chief of the Consumer and Governmental Affairs Bureau, which develops all policies and rules in connection with accessibility issues as well as other direct consumer-facing issues. She also served as chief of the FCC’s Media Bureau, which develops policies and rules in connection with video issues and which has oversight over broadcasters and cable companies. She also served as an advisor to a Commissioner on spectrum issues, and as a special advisor to the General Counsel at the FCC. Monica was previously a partner at the law firm of Squire Patton Boggs, where her practice included counseling clients on telecoms issues and representing clients at the FCC. Monica graduated from the Georgetown University Law Center cum laude, and has an undergraduate degree in Finance from the George Washington University, where she was a National Merit Scholar and graduated magna cum laude.
