Block 2 : Battling Bias in the Classroom

jul 24, 2018: 1:15 p.m. - 2:45 p.m.

Through team activities, group discussion,
and independent reflection, we are going to examine that
which has been the missing component of Cultural
Responsive conversation in education, Bias. It’s so small
that we don’t talk about it…so pervasive that we all have
it…yet so powerful that we are all affected by it. The
individual research of some of the most prolific anti-racist
theorist, psychologists, and educators of our time are
pulled together to create a process to help individuals
effectively battle their bias. The question is…are you ready to fight?

Learning Outcomes:

1. Establish norms and common language for productive discussion around race, class, and inequity.

2. Identify society and personal biases concerning the students and families we serve.

3. Commit to 2 strategies to battle personal biases in the school environment.
