Within our increasingly diverse and global society, it is important to think more systematically about how to build culturally responsive schools and classrooms.  We know that no one teaching strategy will consistently engage all learners and that to support learning, teachers must relate teaching content to the cultural background of their students. Additionally, teachers must strategically organize classrooms into learning communities that foster academic and cultural excellence. In this session, participants will examine the role of culture in teaching and learning to create culturally responsive classrooms.

Designed to help teachers decrease disruptions and improve learning for students, this jam-packed session provides practical techniques and research based strategies proven to:

•        Reduce teacher and student frustration.

•        Improve student focus.

•        Systematically teach appropriate, on-task behavior.

•        Drastically reduce problem behavior.

•        Increase instructional time.
