Meet Our Financial Speakers

Anson Zeall

Co-Founder & CEO

Anson Zeall is the Chairman of ACCESS, Singapore’s Cryptocurrency and Blockchain Industry Association and a committee member of the Singapore Fintech Association. Anson is also the Co-founder/CEO of CoinPip, a payout service leveraging on blockchain technologies. CoinPip is backed by 500 Startups, one of the most prominent venture capital firms in Silicon Valley. He is an instructor of blockchain 101 at General Assembly Singapore. Prior to CoinPip, he ran a private family office in Singapore managing various asset classes, equities, derivatives and real estate. Anson is an alumnus of University of New South Wales and Columbia Business School.


 Boon Kiat

Boon Kiat is a non-practicing member of the Institute of Singapore Chartered Accountants (“ISCA”). He graduated from the Nanyang Technological University in Singapore with a Bachelor of Accountancy degree and has a total of more than 13 years of audit and commercial experience.

Boon Kiat joined Deloitte & Touche LLP (“DT”) in 2003 and spend a total of 12 years in DT Singapore and DT Sydney. During his stay between 2003 to 2005 in Deloitte Singapore, he audited many public listed entities and worked on Initial Public Offerings (“IPOs”) engagements. In 2006, he worked in internal audit in Tyco International Limited before moving to Deloitte Sydney in 2007. From 2007 to 2008, he worked in Deloitte Sydney and rose through the ranks to manager in 2008. In 2009, he came back to Singapore and was promoted to senior audit manager in 2012.

In 2015, Boon Kiat was seconded to Accounting and Corporate Regulatory Authority (“ACRA”) for a year under the Financial Reporting Surveillance Program where he gained valuable insights of the financial reporting regulatory regime in Singapore. He returned to DT in 2016 and joined RT LLP in December 2016.

Boon Kiat’s experience spans across various fields and industries, including, construction, property development, manufacturing, oil and gas, agriculture, hotel & hospitality, property funds, telecommunications and healthcare. In addition, he also worked on many Initial Public Offerings (“IPOs”) and Reverse Takeover (“RTO”) engagements.


Brian Teng

Brian is co-founder and CEO of InvoiceInterchange and an advocate for alternative finance. Having worked in accounting firms and investment banking, he understands the financial constraints business owners face and how the lack of access to funding is holding back good businesses. Brian is driving innovation at InvoiceInterchange using technology to connect businesses to non-bank funds and making obtaining short-term finance online and simple for today’s businesses.

Brian has over 14 years of experience of which 8 years were with investment banks in London including Credit-Suisse, Lehman Brothers and HSBC. His focus was on asset valuations, credit risk, product profit & loss and business management with exposure to Fixed Income and Credit derivatives products.

Qualifying as a professional accountant (CPA Australia) in 2006, Brian worked on statutory and internal audits, due diligence and forensic investigations at Ernst & Young and Deloitte


Chia Hock Lai

Singapore Fintech Association (SFA)

Mr Chia Hock Lai is the President of the Singapore FinTech Association (SFA), a cross-industry non-profit organisation setup to support the development of the FinTech sector and facilitate the collaboration of participants and stakeholders in the FinTech ecosystem.

Hock Lai is also the Head of Digital Office in NTUC Income, the only insurance co-operative in Singapore and a leader in life, health and general insurance, where he drives digital transformation initiatives across the organisation. Hock Lai has extensive experience in both business and IT roles in the insurance industry and is an alumnus of the National University of Singapore and Nanyang Technological University.


Eddie Lee


New Union Group

Mr. Eddie Lee is currently the Group CEO of New Union Holding. He is responsible for overseeing the business performance of its offices across Singapore, Taiwan and Cambodia. New Union has grown to be Singapore’s largest debt based online alternative financing platform. Across the Asia region, New Union has funded over SGD 1 billion to businesses.

Eddie started his technology solutions company in 1998 and had successfully sold it off for a seven figure sum in 2014 so that he may focus on his interests in the Fintech industry. During this short span of sixteen years, he was nominated as the most inspiring entrepreneur by the Spirit of Enterprise Singapore and awarded the 2012 Promising SME 500 Award by the Small Medium Business Association Singapore.

In 2011, the Straits Times, Singapore’s national newspaper, ran a special report on Eddie for his inspirational rags-to-riches story on how he overcame his social plight in order to build his business to greater heights. He was credited for his perseverance in growing his company revenue seven-fold in seven years with only a small team of eighteen employees.

Being at the forefront of the Fintech scene, Eddie is often invited to speak at eminent Business Forums and Fintech events across Asia. As an entrepreneur who built his fortune from scratch, he makes time for Singapore’s top education institutes (including but not limited to the National University of Singapore, Temasek Polytechnic, Ngee Ann Polytechnic and Singapore Polytechnic) to support their educational and mentoring curriculum. Eddie also assists the University of Cambridge’s Centre for Alternative Finance with several research papers on the said topic.

In whatever spare time he can eke out of his busy schedule, he dives into his lifetime passion for Muay Thai kickboxing. He has been training in this sport for more than twenty years and was once a part of the Singapore National team for kickboxing in 1998.


Eric Wong

Eric notably spent 10 years in the corporate banking sector, supporting and building values with customers across multinational corporations, precision engineering, commodities, food and agribusiness sectors. After leaving DBS Bank in 2013, he joined Mizuho Bank where he led the commodities sector, managing assets of over USD2 billion.

Currently, he is the co-founder and COO of JEDTrade, where he oversees its overall market and strategy execution for the company. JEDTrade is a digital trade platform that connects suppliers, buyers and lenders with the aim of making trade and working capital flow more efficiently for businesses. It is built on a combination of smart data architecture to facilitate dynamic trading mechanisms between trade partners; and an early-stage blockchain to register important trade and financing interactions.

Eric is also Mentor of PolyFinTech100 Program and Sub-Committee Member of Singapore Fintech Association. He graduated from the National University of Singapore with a degree in Computational Science, specializing in Statistics and Mathematics. 


Khai Lin Chua

Khai Lin is the co-founder and CFO of Fundnel, a private investment platform that offers unlisted securities in growth and pre-IPO stage companies across industries to a qualified network of investors. She co-founded Fundnel to make a difference to small and medium-sized enterprises that experience insufficient access to growth and expansion funding.

At Fundnel, she is primarily responsible for the company’s financial and operational strategies, whilst providing foundation to a strong team of visionaries with her execution-driven work ethos. More than just a gatekeeper, she fulfils the role of ‘leader-by-example’ with aplomb.

Khai Lin has significant expertise in banking and private investments, having had more than five years of experience working at JP Morgan, Citibank and CIMB-GK Securities. She graduated with top honours from University College London (UCL) with a Bachelor of Science (BSc) in Economics degree.

Out of the office, she is a passionate supporter of animal rights, clocking in hundreds of hours to marine mammal conservation and research projects.


Rolf Haudenschild

Rolf Haudenschild is Co-Founder and Head of Compliance and Internal Audit Services at Ingenia Consultants and Country Head for BRP Singapore. He has over 10 years experience working with law firms, consulting, as well as working in the legal and compliance departments for the Swiss financial regulator and international banks in Switzerland and Singapore.

At Ingenia, Rolf is assisting financial institutions with the implementation of their compliance processes, execution of compliance tasks, licensing and AML/CFT services. At Ingenia Rolf also oversees our outsourced compliance service and is responsible for our internal audits services. In his position as the Country Head Singapore for BRP, Rolf is supporting financial institutions to provide their services in cross border jurisdiction through the implementation of country manuals, trainings and advisory service.

Previously, Rolf worked in financial law and regulation at major banks. Rolf has led numerous assessments for wealth management structures, and operations of financial services providers. He participated in a multi-jurisdictional assessment of risk management procedures in the drafting of regulation on capital requirements and internal policies and became an expert in AML and a delegate on corruption. He has also been involved in major corporate governance initiatives.

Rolf is a Swiss qualified attorney at law and holds an LLM in International Financial Law from King’s College London, England as well as a Master in Law from the University of Bern, Switzerland.

Roy is a seasoned senior executive, with investment banking, foreign exchange trading and inter-bank payment subject matter expertise. A natural innovator in financial technologies, he is instrumental in the delivery of FAST, an ambitious real-time payment network across 14 Singapore banks. He has strong background in creating cryptocurrencies trading systems as well as providing consultations in the use of blockchain and smart contract technologies in solving real-world problems.

Andrew Cooke

Andrew Cooke is the Regional Director of Legal Affairs for Microsoft Asia Pacific and Japan, with responsibility for providing commercial legal support across these markets with a particular focus on the legal and regulatory aspects of cloud computing. Andrew has been with Microsoft since 2007, initially providing legal support for the Australian and New Zealand operations before moving to Singapore in 2012. Prior to joining Microsoft, Andrew worked in private practice in London and Singapore before moving to in-house legal roles in Banking and Information Technology in Australia. Andrew holds degrees in Economics from the University of Sydney and Law from the Australian National University (ANU).

Basil C. Bitas has substantial practice experience in international legal and business matters, having been in-house counsel to a major multinational corporation in Lausanne, Switzerland and subsequently the Managing Partner of the Geneva office of a US law firm. The nature of his practice has involved intensive interaction with the legal systems of North America, Europe, the Middle East, and Asia. The latter region became a sub-specialty of his practice, with particular focus on certain countries in both Northeast and Southeast Asia, including Japan, Korea, China and the Philippines. Mr. Bitas is currently an international research fellow of a Hong Kong-based think tank charged with examining issues relating to regional integration. From 2008 to 2016, he was also an Associate Professor of Law (Practice) at the Singapore Management University, where he taught Comparative Legal Systems, the Economic Analysis of Law, and Ethics and Social Responsibility. He has increasingly focused his research on legal convergence in general and its implications for ASEAN integration in particular, setting these issues within a broader political and economic frame. Mr. Bitas holds Bachelor's degrees in History and Economics from Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island, having graduated Magna cum Laude and Phi Beta Kappa in 1981. He also holds a Juris Doctor degree (1987, cum Laude) from Georgetown University Law Center in Washington, D.C. and maintains active bar memberships in the State of New York and Washington, D.C.


Bryan Tan

Mr. Bryan Tan represents major internet and software companies as well as governments and government entities and has led many industry firsts including the first mass e-mail defamation case in the world, Singapore’s first publicized telecoms competition dispute, a pan-Asian co-branded travel portal, the first privately-funded cable landing project in Singapore and the world’s first registrar-level domain name dispute. Since 2004, Mr. Tan is also named one of the leading individuals in IP, IT and telecoms law by Best Lawyers, Chambers, Legal500, Who’s Who and AsiaLaw. He is a partner at international law firm Pinsent Masons.

For the last 8 years, Mr Tan has also been a legal advisor to the ASEAN Single Window project and was recently appointed to the UN working party on paperless trade facilitation in the Asia Pacific. Mr. Tan is the author of Halsbury's Laws of Singapore - E-Commerce and Halsbury's Laws of Malaysia - E-Commerce (both editions). He also co-wrote the Singapore chapter of Electronic Evidence (three editions) with Prof Daniel Seng, the practitioner’s chapter in Data Protection Law in Singapore and the Singapore chapter on The Comparative Law of Higher Education. He is also an editor for the soon-to-be-published e-Discovery in Asia.


Douglas Chi Qiyuan

Douglas Chi read law at the University of Cambridge, Trinity Hall and graduated with First Class Honours in 2005. He holds an LL.M. from Columbia University Law School (2012), where he was a James Kent Scholar and is admitted as an advocate and solicitor of the Supreme Court of Singapore.

Douglas Chi began his career at the Supreme Court as a Justices’ Law Clerk in 2006, and was later appointed as Assistant Registrar. He subsequently joined a leading Singapore law firm where he had a predominantly commercial disputes practice, appearing before various courts and arbitration tribunals. Douglas Chi also spent some time with Debevoise & Plimpton LLP in New York.

Upon re-joining the Supreme Court in 2015, Douglas Chi currently holds concurrent responsibilities, serving as Legal Counsel as well as Senior Director of the Singapore International Commercial Court (SICC), overseeing its market development.


Professor Locknie Hsu

Locknie Hsu is a full Professor of Law at the School of Law, Singapore Management University. She received her legal training at the National University of Singapore and Harvard University, and is a member of the Singapore Bar.

Locknie specializes in international trade and investment law, international dispute settlement, ASEAN trade law and economic integration, trade and public health, and sovereign wealth funds. She has published extensively and her book, Trade, Investment, Innovation and their Impact on Access to Medicines – An Asian Perspective, was published by Cambridge University Press in February 2016.

Locknie was one of two amici curiae (impartial experts) appointed by the Singapore Court of Appeal during 2015-16, to provide an expert legal opinion in a significant investment treaty dispute.

She is also a Research Fellow in the International Academy of the Belt and Road (Hong Kong) and a member of the Advisory Panel of the Vietnamese Chamber of Commerce in Singapore. In the ASEAN Law Association, Locknie is Chair of the Trade and Investment Group, a member of the Legal Harmonization Working Group, and a member of the Singapore National Committee’s Executive Council.

In the International Law Association, she is a co-rapporteur of the Committee on Sustainable Development and the Green Economy in International Trade Law and a member of the FTA Study Group. She is a member of the Editorial Board of the peer-reviewed Journal of World Investment and Trade. She has been invited to speak at numerous international conferences and has also done work for international bodies such as the World Trade Organization, the World Bank and the Asian Development Bank.

Professor Sudharma Yoonaidharma is presently Advisor to the Minister at Ministry of Industry, Royal Thai Government. The Ministry is responsible for developing the SME promotion scheme, regulating various industries such as mining, industrial estate, industrial standards, the sugar, garment & textile, and food industries.

He is also currently Dean of the Faculty of Law, University of the Thai Chamber of Commerce, Bangkok, Thailand.

He has also been appointed member of many public and private organizations such as the National Legislative Committee on telecommunications law, Committee on satellite law and Public & Private Joint Committee on economic & commerce law.

Professor Yoonaidharma was a Commissioner of the National Telecommunication Commission (2004-2010) - a predecessor of the current National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC). Prior to the NTC appointment, he taught business and economic law at Chulalongkorn University. There, he held senior posts, including Vice Dean for Academic Affairs, Director General of the Intellectual Property Institute and Director General of the Science and Technology Law Center.

Through the years, Professor Yoonaidharma's other activities included the drafting of telecommunications and e?commerce laws, and a proposal to liberalize and privatize government?owned operators. He was appointed as a World Bank transport and telecommunications expert to work with the Ministry of Finance to facilitate corporatization of public utility service agencies, and also prepared a position paper for the Thai Government to negotiate telecommunication services under the Uruguay Round leading to the Thai Schedule of Commitment of 1994 and 1996.

Professor Yoonaidharma has been the lead telecommunication negotiation delegate for the Japan?Thailand Economic Partnership Agreement, Thailand?US Free Trade Agreement (suspended), Thailand?India Economic Cooperation Agreement, ASEAN?China Closer Economic Cooperation Agreement and Thailand?Australia Free Trade Agreement. He was nominated as the Chairman of the ASEAN Telecommunication Regulators Council (ATRC) in 2009, Co?Chair of ASEAN?Japan Telecommunication Dialogue and Co?Chair of ASEAN?China Telecommunication Dialogue.

Professor Yoonaidharma, a notable speaker at many international meetings and conferences, also teaches Telecommunications Law for Masters degrees at the Faculty of Law, Chulalongkorn University.

Tony Nguyen

Mr. Tony Nguyen (MCiarb, mediator & arbitrator, LLM) is a Vietnamese qualified lawyer with English law background. He practices in the areas of project finance and construction with heavy emphasis on cross-border commercial transactions and energy related projects.

Tony spent seventeen years practicing in the energy industry. Prior to founding EPLegal in 2009, Tony worked in managerial and legal positions in the leading oil & gas operators and contractors in Vietnam such as PTSC, Cuu Long JOC, and PVTrans. He has legal experience through various projects related to drilling campaigns; oil and gas production operations; sales, purchasing, and technical services contracts; chartering of vessels/FPSO/FSO; production services; and EPC contracts. Tony also played the driving legal role in various Mio financing projects and investment projects within the energy and infrastructure sector.


Welly Tantono

Welly Tantono is the Country Counsel for Hewlett Packard Enterprise’s Singapore operations. Before joining HPE, Welly co-founded, and was the CEO and GC of Singapore’s first healthcare co-operative, which is widely considered to be a disrupter in the local healthcare scene. Welly started her legal career in large New York and California law firms as a litigator and corporate lawyer working on securities and bet-the-company patent litigations, as well as cross-border M&As, joint ventures and IPOs. As an in-house practitioner, she works in the technology and management consultancy sectors where she partners with the business to drive strategies that grow the business while sandboxing risks in the most diverse region in the world. Welly graduated with honors with a B.A. in Mathematics from Harvard University and a Juris Doctor, with honors, from Duke University. She is qualified to practice in California and New York. She is a founding member of the Association of Corporate Counsel’s Singapore Chapter and currently sits on its board.
